Rain

How to say what needs saying
When forbidden love is all I own
In a foreign state of being
My heart burns, but it beats on

Now your memory is sadness
And the joy I felt is pain
But I’m too afraid to address
So I’ll stay here in the rain

You never were that beautiful
To my eyes, but in my mind
I know I’d gladly give it all
If someone were a different kind

Sorry I can’t tell you who you are
(Though I know you felt it too)
For I love my family more
And it would break them if they knew

There’s no sense in wishing
For what could have been
I’m just glad in passing
That I was your friend
