From a raggedy-ass indian - For Naguset Eask

America the great

Land of liberty

Unless

You're brown like me.

Then, it's the land of the brave.

The American Dream's fine print

says "Privilege not included."

But the joke is we weren't taught English in time to read it.

It's easy to say

"All men are created equal,"

When you don't count the colored ones

As human beings.

But two centuries

Have made us tough.

Injustice has bred resilience

Right down to our bones.

And the time has come again

To rise up and band together

If a bunch of raggedy-ass pilgrims

Can change the world

A bunch of raggedy-ass Indians

Black people

Latinxs

Asians

Can do the same

And I intend to be one of them.

America the great

Maybe I will know you some day.
