Put That in Your Curriculum

Location

They tell us to be dreamers

Then raise us on regulations,

Standards, cookie cutter forms of normality.

And when we can't bend the way they want us to,

We cut our wrists and they call us a shame.

We are not taught to be individuals,

We are statistics, percentages of minorites,

Test scores, grade point averages.

To learn is to

regurgitate,

to be is

not to be your own.
