Purpose Of A First Love Song

Location

The song you wrote me still hides in my closet

Just a useless paper filled with lies

It dies to have a purpose

Maybe I’ll find one that will suffice

Wrapping paper for a white elephant gift

Or just crumpled up into a ball

The scraps can be used for a bird’s nest

A paper airplane smashed against the wall

It’s a jumping frog transformed by origami

It’s begging to be kindling for a fire

A napkin used by my niece after eating canned peas

Maybe a torched paper lantern is its desire

A canvas for my nephew’s finger painting

A paper football boys play with in study hall

A song filled with crappy clichés is the only material I need for

A paper voodoo doll
