Puerto Rico

Location

I love to drive around my old neighborhood

Even with the dirty streets

Littered with cigarette buds and trash

Warped From the sun and rain and snow and heat

Cause I block it out

Instead I stare at the houses

Ones that remind me of home

Home A thousand miles off the coast

To the south I see our allegiance In the waving flags and one star homage

Three red stripes

And two white for completion

Pink houses with green shutters And blue with orange gates

Like the same ones on a mountain edge over looking a clear beach

I see the sadness of separation

Of cold seasons for thin bloods

The desolation of hearts trapped behind iron jails of home to keep out harsh fates

Because the jewel we miss isn't easily reached

So we pay homage with hanging flags and painted houses,

Keep up tradition inside jailed palaces

Hoping every meal gets you closer to the island

The aroma of mango trees and fire pits mingle

Because I love to be in my old neighborhood

Even with the dirty streets Littered with cigarette buds and trash

Warped From the sun and rain and snow and heat

Because I can block it out Instead I stare at the houses

Ones that remind me home
