Promises

She chased,

gave her devotion and held death’s hand,

but his fingers were tighter,

She screamed,

gave her best fight,

but his lies were louder,

Promises of freedom,

to rid her of the deepest despair,

but he always gave an honest price,

And it wasn’t until the day it came,

did she cry,

for she now knew that her life was worth more than want she bargained for,

and the he never left without leaving his mark,

leaving her not without a few scars
