Pragma

When quickened heartbeats have long since slowed to an even pace
And seeing each other brings our hearts at peace
A gentle flame burns eternal on in our shared fireplace
Slow and sometimes swaying, but never to cease

When heated passion fades away
And there are no more words left to say
Companionable silence is here to stay
Only quiet intimacy on sleepy winter holidays

Falling in love was a whirlwind I’ll never forget
But standing in love is a feat to be praised
No more playing affection Russian Roulette
Communication is the lamplight shining through the haze

When we’re old and wrinkled, will you say?
That “though our love is no longer saccharine sweet,
Waking up next to you is like Christmas day”
Then I’ll think ”I’m so glad that we got to meet”
