A POW story
I am a noted soldier sir.
Jeffrey Linton is my name.
My attempts to help my country
Have brought my name to shame
The attempt on that Chi-Com
Is a thing I’ll never deny
But which I will be sorry of
Until the day I die
I started for Hamburger Hill.
That horrible messed up place
It was there on the line
The crazy soldiers I did meet
The Korean War still going
We all sat down to play
A game of good old poker
In the foxhole to shut out the bad day
Across the No-Mans-Land
A target we did see.
I says to John, “We’ll take him
When I count to three.”
There was a problem
We did see
When it was far too late
There were more men in the trees
Now we sit here thinkin’
In our POW camp
If only we were wantin’
To play another poker game.
