Possiblities

I was a shadow

Bound by rights and wrongs,

I was a shadow

I waited too long.

Shadows were meant to follow

Shadows were meant to stay,

But I didn’t want to follow

And I didn’t want to stay.

They kept telling me to look down

But I wanted to look the other way,

My face was etched in a frown

My eyes raining like another day.

But finally when they weren’t looking

I turned my eyes and saw,

My hands finally stopped shaking

My heart began to thaw.

I was no longer a shadow

                    I would no longer concede,

I stopped continuing to follow

And I started to lead.

For my journey is my own

With no boundaries and limits,

Like a sun my heart shone

And I walked towards my summit.
