Porcelain Face

Eyes cold, glassy

Body stiff, unmoving

I'm perfect.

Body in position. Sit still!

Face rosy, smile painted on

Any other emotion obliterated, gone.

Smile. SMILE! Don't let them see,

Who you really are, who you want to be.

Hold your tongue!

Don't you speak!

My words too dark, too deep.

Smooth your curls, straighten your dress.

Don't show emotion, don't be distressed.

My position absolute,

Though my heart's a mess.

My face frozen

This is the fate that you have chosen.

So hurry up!

Get back in place!

Be the doll with the porcelain face.
