Poetry's New Breath

What has poetry taught me?
To analyze critically,
To use my brain,
To harness my thoughts
Into a train
That leads me to
A never-ending expanse
Of knowledge of learning,
Of a second chance.
For you see,
I had given up on poetry
Because of the monotony
That my teachers fed to me.
But one day I sat down
With determination
To receive some extra credit
For a conglomeration
Of my thoughts
On a topic of my choosing,
And I thought to myself,
This is not a battle worth losing.
So with pen and paper
I sat down
And wrote a poem
Of which I was quite proud.
This event taught me
That I quite love writing poetry,
For I can transform my thoughts into an item worthwhile.
