Physically Free, Mentally Enslaved

Kidnapped, Shackled, & Abused
For 300 plus years, hell was what our people went through
They're were a few brave ones who refused to conform
which paved the way for great leaders to continue this reform
Progress was made, and legal issues were changed
However, in 2013 the slave mentality uncounsiously remains
and the hidden tactics that were used to break our people are still sadly in play

Black men having children by multiple women
and these same black women believing that they need to only be independent
Division and judgement within our own race
Black on black crimes seems to always be the case
Comments like "She's cute to be a dark skin girl" or "light skin men are more attractive"
always rubs me the wrong way because these ignorant opinions stems from the plantation days

Blinded, Misled, and Confused
We are no longer in chains or shackles but our minds must be renewed
Our identities were stolen and misplaced with shame
Strategically done to cause self-hatred and pain
Do we really love ourselves?
Are we mentally free?
Can we come together as one people in unity?
