The Pheonix

There is a woman I know
Made of flesh and blood and bone
She's been through hell, and flames, and ash
And through it all, she rises.
She has seen death
And had blood at her feet
Lost herself and faced defeat
She has known fear behind the bathroom door
But through it all, she rises.
I've seen her broken, falling down
In the deepest depths and feared she'd drown
Seen the demons breathing down her neck
But through it all, she rises.
She's stood at the tear-soaked ground and wept
In the places where her little angels slept
Had darkness knocking at the door
But through it all, she rises.
I've seen her shattered
The blood-streaked sheets
Empty bottles, tear-stained cheeks
I've seen her start to slip away
But through it all, she rises.
I've watched her worry
Watching me
When I slipped down
And couldn't see
When I thought that all I'd known was lost
But through it all, she rises.
I've felt the darkness

Closing in

Tearing, clawing

to try to break in

But I've watched this woman
Rise of smoke and ash
And through her strength
I've risen.
