People Wearing Masks

People wearing masks.

Not surgeons.  Not wrestlers.  Not even superheroes.

I know your name, but not your face

If I saw you in public I would not recognize you

It’s true

Social networks have made you famished

Hungry for compliments and praise

All the “hmu baby ;)”s and maybe a few “omg so cuteeeee”s

You’ve seen better days

Booty shorts, cloaked in make-up, with a nice Amaro filter

Photoshop, Instagram, Snapchat

The wrong-minded thinking: I’m too fat and that’s that.

That’s not me.  That’s not me.

What you see is what you get.

I am not handsome.  I am not breathtaking.  I am not fit.

But that’s it!  I may not be fit but I am fit to be

You look at my picture and you see just me

Lanky lad with rusty hair, freckles

And those eyes.  Those great big coon eyes that let you know that I don’t sleep as much as I should

Acne.  Whiteheads, Blackheads.  The poster child for Proactiv.

But I am proactive.  You live a lie, afraid to go out, and me - I just live

So the next selfie you take, think twice; maybe more

It would be nice if more people lived life less unsure
