Pen to Paper Keeps Me Breathing

Location

I write so that the world might not

          spin so fast

So that maybe, maybe it won't travel

          1040 miles per hour

I write to freeze the Earth

in that perfect moment of candor

And in that moment I am drowning

in the blue of his eyes

The rushing feeling keeps me under

          and I give in

          to love's thunder

To its eloquence and hunger

I write so that youth might not

          escape me

So that maybe, maybe I'll be 17

          for another hour

I write to be the flower

that doesn't wither from the showers

Because in this world of acid rain

a droplet falls on every head

And no one's found the fountain

that relives them from the pain

          of aching bones

          and open veins

I write so that others might not

          forsake me

So that maybe, maybe they'll be

         me for a sentence

I write to transform life

         into chewable lies

Though the stars shine bright in space

They blind the Earth

         of evil and disgrace

And I panic.

Because I can see the innocence

in the face of my friends

I write to keep myself alive

Through metaphors and rhymes
