From the Outside Looking In

From the outside looking in:

I see a world full of misunderstandings

Those that are afraid to see as they are blinded by humanity

With words bestowed to us as liberators of the oppressed

We use those very words to brainwash all the rest

I see a zoo of starving animals that take food from the weak

The weak then carry on to find food to last a week

A week’s worth of hope is enough to last the greedy starving a day

But now the starving are hungry so guess who has to pay?

I see a whole lot of sympathy but not enough empathy

Who cares, empathy won’t feed me -what I need is money

It’s funny how green construction paper could make some so bitter

You know it's messed up when the baby becomes the sitter

It’s funny when our fathers are founded in the decorated grave of a plantation

It’s real funny when Toby was founded at the border of Freedom Station

It’s funny that a flowing river could stop us in our tracks

The very railroad that moved us would only bring us back

It’s funny that people escape to the country we call oppressed

It’s even funnier that some call a pair of shorts fully dressed

It's comical when the top 1 percent don't have a dollar to spare

Yet the poor ones are spending more money everywhere

It's amusing when our backs get so used to all the gashing

It's amusing when adults find color so everlasting

It's even better that throughout this, I wasn't ever laughing.
