Thank God for that red, white, and blue,
For not looking at the difference between me and you,
With an army at our side,
And God to guide us through,
We fought for the right,
Of all men black and white,
If you are confused, here's an explination,
Of something that we call the Emancipation Proclamation,
See African Americans were not truly free,
And were also treated unequally,
It claimed all slaves be forever free,
But no one paid attention to Linkon's decree,
Although this proclamation did not settle the score,
It was this that was the turning point for the Civil War,
Transforming the fight to preserve the United Kingdom,
To a battle for every human beings' freedom,
Southern states still had discrimination,
"Jim Crow" laws brought a great separation,
Blacks could not be in the same room as the whites,
This brought attention to African American plight,
So in order to bring change they protested in civil disobedience,
Instead of using force they protested in non-violence,
And so came the day,
The Federal Government made legislative headway,
With initiatives such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965,
The moment had finally arrived,
Lives were risked and some died,
But in the end justice strive,
Freedom was obtained at last,
So let us all move forward and not be held back by the past
