Mortal

the word which strikes fear in our bravest

and shakes even the most reasonable minds...

giving birth to ardency in apostasy

but also dogma, hate, and intolerance.

questions alight onto soft spoken tongues

and people stay in bed just a few more hours

under the weight...

for why must we realize such a thing

what god would leave us so tortured with one word...

would forget to tell us our importance or significance

and leave us to live as machines in a well crafted world

run by the greedy...

Money

The horrid paper which rusts our cogs

and grinds our gears to dust

manifests feelings powerlessness

and puts power in the wrong hands...

determines the course of our mortal lives

whether we are moral or immoral

whether we are kind or unkind

whether we are greedy or not

and we justify this as fair because we have to...

we are angry

but we cannot let this dictate us

we watch as inflation buries our children

our elderly, our sick, and our mentally ill...

and we swallow this image

going through the motions of our lives

finding happiness in the little things

tortured by one word ...
