The One That Got Away

Remember the time we spent our days

Just talking and playing when we would say

That all the things that stressed us out

Would go away when you were around?

Remember how the time flew by

When all we had was us and time

Days turned to weeks and months into years

But despite the time I couldn't keep you here

You had the eyes, the hair, the skin

The personality within

The way you smiled and made my day

And the way you took my fears away

You had the voice to make me melt

And the way you changed the things I felt

But I didn’t make you mine

And that’s what makes you

The one that got away

I remember the first time we traded smiles

And walked around town for miles and miles

The first night that we held hands

And the way my love for you began

But all of those are memories now

Cause I let you go and I don’t know how

You were the only thing I knew

So why would I let go someone like you?

You had the face to brighten a room

An attitude like sweet perfume

The way you had me lookin’ over my shoulder

And kept me warm as it got colder

You had my heart pounding at every glance

And wishing for a single chance

But I didn’t make you mine

And that’s what makes you

The one that got away

I lay alone in bed each night

Regretting the things I didn’t do

With a tear soaked pillow, a broken heart

And a stack of letters I wrote to you

I never sent them cause I'd regret them

And all the things that represent them

But what I regret most of all is letting you become

The one that got away

You were the angel that came from my dreams

With a golden glow and gorgeous wings

You were the lover I never had

And all of these make you

The one that got away
