Once Upon A Poem, The Little Mermaid

Once upon a time, deep in the blue sea,

There lived a little mermaid, whose hair was red as fire,

To this little mermaid, there was more for her to be,

She had a greater desire.

The little mermaid wanted to have a purpose,

She wanted to save lives,

Against her father’s wishes, she swam up to the surface,

Though in the water, she thrives.

A shipwreck took place,

On a night when, earlier, fireworks had boomed and burst,

The little mermaid saw a man’s face,

And the man was clearly hurt.

The little mermaid sped to the shore,

Taking the man to safety,

She wanted to know more,

But the man’s memory was a bit hazy.

She stayed silent and quiet,

As the man explained the life of a human,

Her heart raced like in a riot,

Her love for this species was blooming.

The little mermaid returned to her father,

Hoping to get legs for land,

But he said humans weren’t worth bother,

And from the surface, she was banned.

“It’s lives I want to save,”

That’s what the little mermaid told her dad,

“In the ocean, I feel like a slave,”

Which made her father mad.

The little mermaid cried and cried,

Her father watched from a distance,

She hadn’t cried this much since her mother died,

He knew his daughter wanted purpose to her existence.

So, with a mighty roar,

The little mermaid’s father turned her fin into legs,

And to the surface, she soared,

No more would she have to beg.

The little mermaid wanted to save lives,

As a doctor, that’s what she did,

On the land, she survives,

She even had a kid.
