O Future

One year ago the school was bright

And dreams of the future kept me up at night

Thoughts of

"Where will I go?"

And "Who will I be?"

Dreaming,

Thinking,

Endlessly.

Nine months ago life was full of splendor

Questions multiplying, few to be answered

Thoughts of

"How high will I climb?"

And "What can I do?"

Through

And through

Friends ask too.

Six months ago was a blur like no other

Deadlines and due dates, one after another

Thoughts of

"...fuck"

And "Well I'll be damned!"

Cram

Seniors, cram

You're in a jam.

Today and I hear it! After months of waiting

A raspy voice, weak and grating:

"O Future! O Future! Who will I be and what can I do?"

A pause, and an answer, "Wonder. Wonder lies in you."

"Well I'll be damned. I think Sir, that's true."
