O Captain, My Captain

You began by holding my hand

destroying all my obstacles,

holding me when I couldn't stand.

Though it began with late night scary dreams,

for which you were prepared;

when the challenges got more destructive,

you were never left impaired.

At 16 I experienced a traumatic heartbreak.

Though it wasnt the type a boy could give, it cut deeper.

A loss of a friend, at the hands of teenage imprudence.

As the darkness consumed me, you remained as the peacekeeper.

Mom and Dad, you will never understand how much I love you.

Your wisdom and guidence have helped me grow.

Thank you for everything you've done for me,

you mean more to me than you will ever know.
