The only sweater that I ever loved

Was replaced over the years

But always modeled after the original

My first love

Protecting me from talking, smiling, or looking at anyone

I was 14 years when I found it in my mother’s closet

Oversized, black

Over my head it went and I cautiously walked to the mirror

And a huge grin spread across my face

Because it did everything that I wanted it to do

When I was 17 I came into responsibilities

and money

That’s when the five black sweaters came into my life

Lacey, Drapey, Skanky, Preppy, and Tiger

The only sweater that I ever loved

Was replacede over the years

But always modeled after the original

My first love

Protecting me from talking, smiling, or looking at anyone

It made me austere

And told people to stay clear

Because I wasn’t secure

The only sweater that I ever loved

Was replaced over the years

But always modeled after the original

The first love

Protecting me from talking, smiling, or looking at anyone
