Not as Bad as You Think - Inspired by Ben Rector's song 30,000 Feet

When I wish upon a star,

I instantly just think of all

the things I've wished I've had myself

for such a long, long time.

But when I think of all the things

I've had and used and played and seen,

I realize I take it all for granted,

so I've decided: no more.

I'll appreciate what's right here.

It may be gone this time next year.

I've felt better, I've had worse.

I've been lost, confused, and hurt.

Wishing things would change and that

my life would get better.

Wishing I could start anew,

hoping hard times would change too,

but you know when you think of everything,

reflecting on all of your blessings,

it's not as bad as you think.

Thinking back on all the times

I needed shoes and food and time

and feeling way down deep inside

I still had needs not met.

But then I looked around and thought,

maybe it's not so bad after all?

I've got my friends and family

and a pretty decent life.

I've been blessed beyond belief,

I just don't always look and see...

I've had better, I've seen worse.

I've been lost, confused, and hurt.

Wishing things would change and that

this life would get better.

Wishing I could start anew,

hoping hard times would change too

but you know when you think of everything,

reflecting on all of your blessings,

it's not as bad as you think.

So many people in this world,

so many things they bought and earned,

so many reasons why

they keep collecting stuff.

But you really think about it all

the happiness they seek in stuff

is never quite fulfilled because

the things don't bring true joy,

So it's time now to reflect

on what's truly most important.

We've all been better, we've been worse.

We've been lost, confused, and hurt.

Wishing things would change and that

our world would get better.

Wishing we could start anew,

hoping hard times would change too,

but you know when you think of everything,

reflecting on all of your blessings,

it's not as bad as you think.

When I wish upon a star,

I instantly just think of all

the things I've wished I've had myself

for such a long, long time.

But when I think of all the things

I've had and used and played and seen,

I realize I take it all for granted,

so I've decided: no more.

I'll appreciate what's right here.

It may be gone this time next year.
