No excuse

2 Timothy 1:7 New English Translation

7 For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Cracks and flaws with no excuse

To love God with feeling and burning sensation,

To shower Him with warmth and tears

It may be more like sailing through the ocean

Without leaving a lasting trace behind

Love like this is just a short happy emotion

It is a loving pleasure to soothe fears gently

It touches the heart but brings only commotion

For its truth does not affect life but just the mind.

The soul is the very self that we are feeling

and cannot be drawn quickly away from itself

So affection herein is only for self-working

And love for God becomes for love's sake itself

So to think and talk or have a desire

And some way to meditate on the Lord

It seems only done to make oneself happy?

As this motive moves you farther from the Lord

You're moving just a breath away

From your pitiful self and your cause

Your loving is not for just God's sake

Your life seems full of cracks and flaws

All noticed the direction of your pathway

The label of carnality deeply embossed

On all that you do and so often desire

A hypocrite on the highway of the lost
