The Nightmare

Toddlers pitter patter,

The whole world is theirs.

One step forward-

This step gives them a scar.

Parents comforting,

Strangers judging.

A doctor says they won't grow,

The child is oblivious.

In a torn princess dress,

She plays football.

Her feet are painted by moulch.

Roads are diverging,

The converging line is drifting away.

Peter Pan's shadow may be benevolent,

Hers-

Is the descent to Wonderland.

Cold and unforgiving.

The only way is to move forward,

Away from it all.

While she is deciding to move away,

The breadcrumbs go away.

Slowly the path back goes away.

My my,

Can't she see.

Life will never just be.

Toddlers pitter patter.

The words others say,

Tug her puppet strings.

Her feelings, a corset being tightened.

The world is beginning to crumble.

Is this real, or Wonderland?

All is quiet laughter.

Her sword-

May it be her voice.

She will stomp on the queens.

Her face twitches,

Is this a nightmare?

So close is she to being.

My my,

She can see.

Life will go on.

Toddlers pitter patter.

The shadow grows taller,

Is it more mighty?

She grows stronger too though,

As her dog licks away at her wounds.

She wakes up.
