A New Picture

When I was little I drew a picture.

Depicted was a far away future.

In that picture I drew a profession,

which I don’t believe would have left much impression

because as I grew up I began to see

a world in need of a devotee.

Violence behind every door

Blood being washed from the floor.

Hatred being yelled from the mouth,

Bullying between all of the youth.

The news riddled with the horror.

Everyone in search of a peace restorer.

Throughout high school I sighed,

Watching as the world cried.

Feeling as though all good was gone,

but everyday is a new dawn.

A concept that took long to learn.

So what will it take for the positives to return?

I am only one,

but I have just begun.

I have chosen to study psychology

with a concentration in poli-sci and criminology.

I am going to stop some hate

and set some people straight.

To lead I have been called.

And as this poem is being scrawled,

I imagine a brighter world fate

in which the masses will come together and reinstate

some sort of uniting peace

and the hate will begin to cease.

Naivety seems so far away,

yet I continue to grow up more everyday.

So we find ourselves here,

looking at how I want to help those who tear.

This is how I chose to embark.

I hope I will soon make my mark.
