When will America be the land of the free?
When will liberty and justice
For all become equality and opportunity?
Who am I who mumbles
Through the shackles that ring vividly
Through the veins of so many?
I am the new Jim Crow,
Not the old one, the pioneer who
Will anchor across the rivers and oceans,
I am the Negro who would
Unlock chains and unleash dreams.
As I set foot on the home of the brave,
I will be the new Jim Crow
Who will not stain the steel of freedom.
I will co-exist in a world where Negros pray to an Anglo God,
And will not be the shadow of a shining light.
How can the devil look so much like an Angel when it smiles?
Much like David in his biblical triumphs versus Goliath,
Plessy versus Ferguson united African American
as we stood as the proud underdogs,
Never willing to take the back seat for what was morally unjust.
The new Jim Crow will release the
Courage that African Americans stand for,
As a symbol of what America truly is
A fighting entity that stands up for their beliefs
Regardless of its motherlands oppressive forces,
I am the New Jim Crow
