Here I sit, all alone, in my own little cell.
I only know my neighbor by their barks.
A new one moves in everyday and hardly anyone moves away.
But when they do they jump for joy and leave for a new life.

I have been here for all to long, one year this December 24.
They found me curled up hiding from the snow in a manger scene one night.
My name is Noel, as I was admitted on Christmas eve.
I'm hoping there is a new home out there for me.

Yesterday a man came by and looked at us all.
He even pet me and called me pretty.
But before he left he tossed my ball.
I liked that man and I hope he returns, he smelled of pancakes and cookies.

Today the floor is cold and drafty.
My cell feels way too small, all I want is to run and leap.
But today we must stay inside because the snow is much too high.

Right after lunch that same man came but this time he wasn't alone.
He had a woman, and two little girls.
They all smelt of cookies and cocoa.
And they had frost kisses noses.

They first went to my neighbor and cooed at his looks.
He points to me and everyone follows.
Now is my time to shine I must perform.
If I want to go home this time.

I skip up to the door.
I wag my tail and jump show my ability.
I cock my head and they Awww at my floppy ears.
I think this is it, maybe it's time for me to finally go home.

The littlest girl giggles and squeals.
While the bigger one begs her mom.
The man agrees and so he leaves,
Only to return with my landlord.

She opens my door and puts on my leash.
The family is happy and rub me all over.
My tails wags on its own.
They pick me up and carry right to their car.

This is it, I'm heading home.
I sit in the back with the little girls.
They tell me all about the fun things we'll do.
The man says there is another surprise.

We get home and I jump out and run to the door.
The little girls giggle at my excitement.
Once inside I smell the cookies and know this is home.
I round the corner and there is the other surprises.

An older woman is sitting in a chair.
There is a big bed with toys inside.
All right under the tree.
This is home I am the present, these people saved me.
