Necklace

Hansel and Gretel was often seen together
Wearing the same necklace made by their passed mother
Forever they thought to be a part of each other
Even after the cruel step mother tore then from their father

"We can't go home!" Gretel wallowed
For just moments ago they had been left alone
Hansel reassured Gretel, "I left a trail of bread crumbs to follow."
But only a few feet still had bread crumbs

A murder of crows were pecking at ground
Hansel threw the few pebbles he had
But the deed was done
No more bread crumbs to be found

For days the children trekked
They held onto their necklaces
But time did not tick
Trees looked the same

Hansel and Gretel knew the end was near
But they only feared for their oblivious father
The wicked step-mother was a snake
Coiled around his neck

Suddenly sugar and honey could be smelled
A baker perhaps? Or maybe a passing merchant
“Hansel!” Gretel cheered
They ran with their little legs

A gingerbread home
With sugar as windows
And cotton candy as bushes
Topped with honeycomb

Munching with no hesitation
The sound of footsteps fell short
“Who dares to eat my home!”
If only Hansel and Gretel could teleport

They stopped
Stared
And kept eating

“Oh children!” The old lady cooed
“Come in. Come in.” She waved
Gretel was dragged in
Hansel could only follow

Inside piles of cake
Cookies with cream
And sugary drinks
Could be seen and smelled

“Have some,” The witch insisted
They each picked a single cookie
“Have More”
“More-“

But the next day Hansel was thrown into a cage
Hansel was forced to eat mountain size cakes
And odd smelling sugar water
While Gretel ate shriveled up dates

“Gretel! Prepare the oven!”
Gretel could only do what the witch wanted

But that didn’t mean she did everything

“You are skinny as bone!” The witch cried
“That means I need more to eat,” Hansel replied
“I am too hungry to wait!”
“N-“ the witch ran off

Gretel stood next to the oven
The witch slowly walked towards her
“Gretel-“ the witch summoned
And leaned towards her

“NO!” Gretel pushed the witch into the oven
Then quickly closed the door
The sounds of screaming echoed the room

“LET ME OUT!”

It repeated
“LET ME OUT PLEASE! GRETEL!”

Gretel ran towards the room with the cage
“Hansel!” She cried
But it was all staged
The cage was empty

“Well Well..” A voice came from the back
Gretel gasped and turned around
The witch still stood intact
And a wicked smile graced her face

Gretel decided to run back to the oven
She slammed the door open
And inside the oven
Was a blacken body

And her brother’s necklace
