My Year In Poetry Scholarship-- I'm Awake

I'm awake now,

for so long I was asleep

lying still

wrapped in my youthful keep

My sleepy eyes take a peak

and look around in fear

yet my body feels too weak

not yet ready to loose all I hold dear

I'm awake now,

and can see the world as it is

a debased and distored view

when compared to my familiar bliss

In this world

where children fight, where leaders scream,

Where all light is so meticously followed by the dark

Should I have stayed asleep?

Yet out numbered as it is

the light calls to me still

forcing me to awaken,

to live.
