My Wild and Wonderful Journey

Fri, 01/23/2015 - 12:56 -- hpop98

I started off small

You know, glasses and all?

I was adventurous

And a little bit tall

I was the kid on the playground

Without a fear at all

But when I went home

There were holes in the wall

You see my dad likes beer

And sometimes I'd hide

When I didn't want to hear

The screaming and fighting

That beer bottle brought

The tears my mother cried

But it was at a young age

When I realized

I had to keep my head up

Keep my pride

Because with a little patience

And my young grinning stretching wide

I would make it to the bright side

But now I look back

And wonder what the bright side is

Because there's still holes in the wall

And beer in the fridge

I learned several lessons

As I've grown

But there's one thing that

I've always known

Even when there's beer

In the fridge

There's still the West Virginia sun

Sinking low on the ridge

There's still leaves

That change in the fall

There's still beautiful snow

This I loved when I was small

There's still my mother's laugh

Which shields me from my fears

There's still my little sister

She's so young and brave

There's still the chance

That we will escape

To somewhere beautiful

In the West Virginia hills

Full of laughter and fun

And beautiful thrills
