My Romeo

No, I don’t think you’re crazy
A little eccentric, maybe
But I’ve always loved you like that
Don’t I always have your back?

I was never the one to judge you
Instead I’ve always tried to nudge you
In becoming of what you dreamed
Of a life so great that you have deemed

To be married at an age not too old
To have kids before you reached 40 years old
To be surrounded by friends who truly accept you
To be surrounded by family who won’t step on you

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet
We’ve wandered together. The journey’s not over yet.

There has never been a day that has gone by
That I’ve stopped loving you even if I try
But I don’t want to try nor leave your side
I want to support you in anything just like a bride.

So what that people has called you out of your name
They are hurtful words that you shouldn’t claim
Being smart is a blessing. Treat it not like a curse
But they treated you so bad your emotions just burst

I know it was hard to take the teasing
Even from girls who need bad boys for pleasing
Being nice is soft and being a gentleman is weak
They would've made you miserable every day of the week.

Society’s real hard on you for just being you
For being so kind and even so generous too
Then you began to shut the world out
They say you have issues but you didn’t even pout

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet.
I’ll travel with you. Our world didn’t end just yet.

Your friends weren’t really exactly the best
But you couldn’t think of them as anything less
Because they were the kind of people you’d trust
Y’all friendship, you thought, was very robust

You have done everything in your power
To make sure your friends weren’t devoured
They repaid you with such little gratitude
But later would give you so much of their attitude

You thought that forever they’d be your ride-or-die boys
Until you realized that they were playing you like a toy
I became your best friend and picked up their slack
I didn’t want the hurt in your heart highly stacked

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet.
I’ll stand by your side. We’re not done just yet.

Before anything else family came first
They’re the bank, the counselor, and even the nurse
That’s what you went by. That’s what you believed.
Sadly to say that you were greatly deceived.

If they needed you for anything you were there
You had unlimited love and kindness to spare
They used that against you knowing the result
They’d made you feel guilty and threw in some insults

Your heart and mind would be twisted up in pain
Cause you couldn’t fathom why they fed off of your pain
If only I had known right from the very start
I could’ve helped you much better with your bleeding heart

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet.
I’ll never leave your side. We’re not close just yet.

All the pain and anguish that you’re going through
You’d think if your life was a color, it’d be blue
You often wonder why God is just sitting
Knowing your problems as if His, on you, quitting

Or maybe He just doesn’t even care
Even though you declared a dangerous dare
That one day you’ll talk to Him face to face
If you’re prayers go unanswered, just in case

“Why didn’t You save me from the hurt?
Am I so unworthy that I’m lower than dirt?"
I guess only the chosen ones get a better life
The called will just have to be brave to not lean on the knife

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet.
We’re so very close. Does He not hear us yet?

On the dock, as the car is picking up speed
We’re wondering if we’re doing an unforgiveable deed
Soothing music plays as we flew into the air
Before the car dives, we wonder if He’ll show that He cares

We kissed passionately knowing it’d be our last
We held each other’s hands while the radio played jazz
The freezing water flushed in and suffocated us
We took it all in so lightly because it was more than a must

Grief-stricken Romeo drank poison to follow his Juliet
She took a dagger to the heart and then went quiet
Whether in life or in death they’d forever be together
They couldn’t dream of being apart that’s how much they loved each other

You’re my Romeo and I’m your Juliet.
I wonder if God’ll answer our prayers yet.
