My Own Beat

Sometimes I just shut my eyes,

And dream I am some where up in the skies.

With no worries of falling,

I have found my calling,

Drifting through the clouds,

I can truly think aloud,

Without the critisism of this world,

For letting all of my beliefs unfurl.

I can write my own lyrics for my life's song,

I've discovered a haven where I truly belong.

I'm free to dream of my own path,

I can choose how my fate and days will last.

Nobody to tell me what I'm supposed to do,

It is up to me to think and choose.

I'm finally standing on my own two feet,

I don't care who sees how I dance to my heart's beat.

For no one's opinion will shatter my hopes and dreams,

I'm filled with thoughts that are bursting at the seams.

For once you expose the simplest thought,

It is all of your troubles that are being caught.

So I close my eyes and drift away,

Searching for my clearer day.

Where troubles don't torment my shaken soul,

Where my feelings and thoughts are kept in control.
