My Metaphorical life as a Chevy Cavalier

The year is 1984
You’re shiny and new
Think of all the things you’ll do
Friends you’ll meet
Music you’ll hear
Adventures you’ll go on
The memories will last a lifetime
20 years down the road
You’ve been through some dirt
A few dings and scratches
Lost a few people along the way
You’ve always loved the open road
Settled down a time or two
Just long enough to take in the view
Did some maintenance
Got a few new fancy parts
Hoping they’ll last a bit longer
Gave up a few things from the past
Onto new adventures never looking back
A little smoke from the engine appears
The smell of burning oil
The engine goes quiet
Just a leaking gasket
Nothing sever
Patch it up
The smoke clears
38 years now we’ve seen so much
Wonder if others had as much fun
Blaring music by bonfires
Friends passing out in back seats
Learning the roads of life like ghosts
Fighting to hold on to little things
The rear view mirror a reminder
Of what we call
The good old days
You’ve been through struggles
We won’t mention your engine
The future is ahead
Now’s not the time to give up
A few tweaks but you’ll be fine
Just have to adjust a little timing
You’ll be good as new
Trust and believe
You have me
I've got you
