My Life After You

Without you to hold me down

I am so much more than before.

All you have done to me:

Belittled

ignored

harassed

forgotten

treated without worth

I have grown in spite of that.

The burden of you is gone

and I am flying free.

Finally broken the chains you had on me

though you did not know they were there.

I overcame you,

overcompensated where I had failed before.

Yet I failed you as well.

The weight of the situation

you did not understand.

You defy gravity while I am stuck on land below.

Who am I to hold you down?

But who are you to mistreat the fallen

Like me?

We are both monsters in our own right

Though I bear the burden of both evils

in my mind

because all I can hear

is your voice

telling me

I’m

not

good

enough

to

fly.
