My Inspiration
This is a story about a young girl growing up in a broken family. Her kingdom was infinitely wandering. This story takes you through the steps of her inspiration and invites you to explore the spark she found. She fell into the hands of addiction and sought guidance from the light of art. Despite her many efforts, things didn’t come easy to her but she proceeded through the rough terrain and made it out on the other side. If you were to see her today, you would be able to tell she has more years on her than time shows. This is a story about a girl who lost her way, then found a new path; a path that would lay the foundation for the rest of her life.
His voice is sultry and effortless
He comforts me when I’m alone
I embrace it, for it is my own
He comes to me when I’m at my lowest
Acknowledging flaws of his own, he cannot pass judgment
I’m lost in a moment I wouldn’t want to ruin
His, is a noise that stays with me through the night,
Like a lullaby of drum rhythms and electronic riffs
It’s been a long one, 4 a.m. and sleep is a fight
When the sun is out, he sings to me through two stems in my ears as I adjust my aperture
My film is personal; each photo is a remembrance of his poetic movement,
I am humbled with a, “wow that turned out great”
I shyly blame it on the excellence he emanates
Now I cajole you to take a listen, let them feed you what they fed me, it’s just some drum beats and a couple of rhythms but it’s just so pleasant when you listen
Now it’s interesting to see where they come from
Small town Minneapolis, just two kids spitting out rhymes to make a dime
It’s a powerful influence when one media inspires another
Well, that’s how you know they’re good
They go by Slug and Ant, forming a group called Atmosphere
“Atmosphere, it’s just a ten letter word, discretion is the name of my cement-feathered bird” (God Loves Ugly)
I love that line, he’s a rapper with more than money on his mind
It’s easy to respect a guy like that who cares about the art form rather than the payments
I want to follow in those footsteps, so I can inspire all the same kids
