My Dear Teacher

My dear teacher

One day I will see you again

Passing through the aisle of a supermarket

Or in line at the movies

And you’ll ask how I’ve been

And I will tell you how I fell in love

Or how I created a cure for cancer

Or how I travelled the world

Or about my three beautiful children

And I’ll tell you how that F on my final exam

Never affected me at all

And I’ll tell you about my life

Just how far I’ve come

And how the person you made me out to be

The girl who got every question wrong

Found her way in this world

And didn’t need your help after all

Guide that inspired this poem:
