My Daily Odyssey

Location

The glass glints as my window opens,
When the light streams in,
My whole world brightens,
But with the light comes shadows.

Dark, hidden corners frame my room,
While the forbidden closet creaks,
A silent challenge to peer inside,
To face the all-consuming darkness.

A rustle beneath my bed,
Echoes in the noisy silence,
My mattress shakes her skirt,
Sending a colony of dust floating through space.

Four black walls illude eyes that peer into
A never-ending distance,
Topped with a bright ceiling of stick-on stars,
Its very own sparkling galaxy.

Stacks of books lumped together,
Resembling the monsters of my nightmares,
Tower over the cluttered floor,
Land mines disrupting my journey to the door.

Cool tile beneath my bare feet,
Lines the winding hallway bordered by
Open doors that taunt me,
Until I dare to take the first step.
