My Cousin-I Would Never Be

My cousin-I would never be

Not just because of my age

But because I was an entity

Going through an awkward stage

At times I felt incompetent

Compared to the girls in my class

I hated myself for not being like them-

-For getting into trouble that incurs wrath

Why did I make the mistakes?

I do not know

I did not know

Maybe I was slow

Well a smarts I possessed

That came from books

And O the material I read

Yet I never read Bell Hooks

This was so confusing!  Though some may find it amusing

To live in such a dichotomous dance

To a song constantly begins; yet never ends

What causes such circumstance?

Boys' and girls' thought processes are different

As puberty laid bear

Bear this in mind

If children are in your care

This poem is about:
Me
