My Companion

The only thing I need to survive may seem a little strange-

although it's not so much a thing, either-

but the only thing I need

is my companion, my guardian, my reflection,

my...dog.

We live for each other, we inspire each other;

surely, with just the two of us,

we would be able to survive, scrape out a living, even enjoy our lives.

She has shown me utter joy, utter freedom, utter devotion;

she has shown me complete stubbornness, complete belligerence, complete carelessness.

She has shown me the ways of the world and the ways of myself;

surely, with just the two of us,

we could thrive.
