My city's hero

Sun, 08/11/2013 - 20:38 -- NickLee

I'm from a place where darkness dwells, and light is hardly administered to the inhabitants of its city.  Where homocides are common, and kidnappings come around like holidays.  The youth are influenced by the corrupt souls that roam the streets in search of nothing but violence, drugs and danger, they threatened the destiny of our children, the lifestyle of our working citizens and the retirement of our elders.  Thats when I reflect and think, can i be that hero, can i be that beacon of hope, can i be role model that my city is so in need of, so desperate for.  A figure that can show them they have a choice! That they dont have to be a drug dealer, a murderer, or just another young african american sad story who ends up behind bars, or on the 6 o'clock news.  I dont have a cape, nor do i have super powers, what i do have is a mind, and with that as my weapon i can save so many more individuals then any character out of a marvel or DC comic.  Everyday, I'm afraid, scared that I'm not enough, that I wont be able to change my city for the greater good, yet everyday its that same fear that gives me the edge to take on the ENTIRE Detroit area.  To show the new generation school is tool that will help build you the foundation to exceed in life and not a gun, that passion is the quality you must possess to acquire respect and dignity, not fear.  I have taken it upon myself to put that "S" on my chest and give everything i have to ensure the kids have a brighter tomorrow, to make sure the adults can feel comfortable to leave their house so they can make their living for the kids and families that depend on them each and everyday, and to make sure our elders enjoy their vacation after they have worked so hard to pave roads for the new generation.  This is my duty, this is my task, and this is why I'm my city's hero

This is dedicated to one of the worst cities in the US, Detroit, I just want to bring it back from the hole it fell in
