Modern Society

Our world is in disarray,

wouldn't you say?

When our kids learn to hate,

how to argue, debate,

But never to love,

or to challenge their fates,

We look at people as numbers and figures,

While others run rampant, pointing their triggers,

At children no less,

while Congress full of clowns,

does nothing to stop them,

"Hands up!" "Get down!"

Echoes through the halls of a simple high school,

in a town so small that it couldn't be true,

But it is, I assure you,

this is what the world has come to,

So what will you do?

Will you let it continue?

In a fight we may not win,

We are afraid to take a stand,

for fear of persecution from our "families" and our "friends,"

The world will surely judge us,

for speaking our minds,

They say "the world is just,"

Now "shut up, get back in line,"

America the free?

That's not America for me,

When as a woman I can't walk alone,

for fear of someone hurting me,

But it's not his fault, is it?

I should stay home,

shouldn't ask for it,

Keep my head down,

wear better clothes,

stop dressing like a "hoe,"

It's my fault if I've been drinking,

'Cause consent doesn't mean anything,

Boys will be boys,

that's what they tell you,

And girls are their toys?

They'll try to sell you,

Our world is in diarray,

wouldn't you say?

Let's change society together,

for tomorrow is a new day.

This poem is about:
Me
My country
Our world
