A Modern Day Tragedy: Icarus Retold

Tue, 07/30/2019 - 10:49 -- sneher

Icarus doesn't listen to his father,

When did he ever?

"Do not falter, son"

"Oh, I would never"

And so, Daedalus sent his son on his way

If he had known that was the last time he'd see him

He would've made Icarus stay

He would've given a limb

Icarus was driving along

When he felt his phone buzz

He checked to see who it was from

As he normally does

If he had known his last text would be:

"Hey baby, don't worry! I'm the king!"

Maybe that would've been the key

To resisting the ring

Alas, Icarus lost his life that day

Driving distracted

Out on the freeway

Leaving his father permanently impacted

This poem is about:
Our world
