The Mistaken Billy Goats

Tue, 08/22/2017 - 17:06 -- Purl

Once upon a time

In a meadow quite rough

Lived three billy goats

With the sur name Gruff.

They pranced around thinking

That they were hot stuff

Until their meadow greenery

Was no longer enough.

The three goats soon felt at a loss,

But the eldest one said,

"Remember the bridge,

We must go across!"

"The grass will be greener

On the other side."

But the younger two goats

Just wanted to hide.

For these two remembered

The stories of old

Of a troll under a bridge

With a heart, stone cold.

But the eldest refused

To heed their complaining.

Instead, he pushed forward

From his goal, never waning.

To their surprise

The troll simply said,

"Come on across,

Greener grass is ahead!"

The troll was not mean

Like they had thought.

On the contrary, he was kind,

So the old stories, they forgot.
