A Misguided Generation

We fought for the right to be free,
Free like those before us had not been.
We protested and tried our hardest to fit in,
but the white man would not let us be.

Tortured and ridiculed we were,
Only trying to get what we deserved.
Instead we got beat down and abused by everyone around.

The scars we have today are a symbol of our right to fight,
And how we fought for what people now take for granted.
We stood and waited patiently for justice to be served..

And what do we get now?
Kids and grown ups alike, pants halfway off their behinds and cursing up storms.
Not treating those rights they fought so hard for properly..
Maybe if they had to fight like we did they would understand
And appreciate what they have as freedoms.
Can’t simply blame this misguided youth for their short-comings;
Just a misguided generation..
