Mirrors Are Big Fat Liars

Mirrors tell convincing lies

They let you see
What others see

Thin reflective glass
Smoothing out bumpy skin
Brightening eyes
Whitening teeth
Making frizzy hair invisible

Mirrors lie very well
They skew the truth
Just enough to be wrong

The true you is scary
Harsh words slip by your teeth
Disproving glances on your face
Ungraceful movements
Ugly insecurities

These lies only scratch the surface
Of who you really are

They don't show how you feel
Your experiences
The things that have shaped you

I suppose I can't blame them
Those poor mirrors
For trying to make you look pretty

Because the true you
Is absolutely terrifying
