Mind Ya Business

You can’t tell her you were up until two last night because the machine at work was frozen.

She might ask why you were working until eleven o’clock on a school night or worse, talk to your parents.

You can’t tell her you’re drowning in calculus, geography, yearbook and family problems.

She might ask probing questions or worse, not care.

You can’t tell her that the guy sitting across the room from you is snickering because he knows what you did last weekend.

She might ask what you did last weekend or worse, already know.

You can’t tell her the girl in the black pumps used to be your best friend.

She might ask why you aren’t anymore or worse, take her side.

You can’t tell her you’re falling so far behind in reading you can’t spell the main character’s name right.

She might ask you to stay after class or worse, not worry about it.

There are barriers.

Teachers can’t be friends.

Friends can’t be teachers.

She knows that.

Or worse, she doesn’t care.
