Metamorphosis

As a child, I act- innocent eyes capture imagination

Seeing worlds adults cannot see, blind to the beauty

Days comprised of dreams-

of Prince Charming gallivanting confines of castles,

of  exploring foreign, intergalactic lands,

of capturing stars in the night sky

Living where dreams do not die.

My mind, aged seventeen, my heart still six

still plagued with childhood dreams, fantasies, ambitions

I will act; I will sing; I will paint; I will write

These distant dreams are chains, they bind you-

some might say- I am bound by nothing

Forever a willing slave to the written and spoken word

Living where dreams do not die.

Money rules their world, not mine, as I

live content as a starving artist must

The stage is my home, exploring the world

Through a character’s soul, my greatest tutors- people

Telling stories, creating art-passion ignites the world

Fashioning empathy, compassion for unsung heroes

Living where dreams do not die.

As an adult, I act- wise eyes capture imagination

Seeing worlds adults still cannot see, blind to the beauty

Days comprised of realities-

of Prince Charming gallivanting confines of castles,

of exploring foreign, intergalactic lands,

of capturing stars in the night sky

All on the expanse of the theatre ground

Living where dreams do not die.

I love it. I really wish it was something I had on my heart to write. This made me nostalgic, longing for a childhood and imagination that I don't feel I ever had... It was just beautiful.
