Memory is a Tenuous Thing

Memory is a tenuous thing
It's so fragile, the things we forget
But some memories hurt with the pain that they bring.

Some things in life, we let go of or we cling
On to the memories that are full of regret
Memory is a tenuous thing.

The thoughts we hold on to can feel good, or they can sting
The pain in this life is seen as a threat
But some memories hurt with the pain that they bring.

Yet some pain inside is worth remembering
Because experience gives us strength to push through the things we fret
But memory is a tenuous thing.

They bring us guilt that is heavy, so strong and overbearing
You can dwell on the memories that comfort, or the ones that make you upset
But some memories hurt with the pain that they bring.

Some memories can be useless, or full of deep meaning
You can try to push them away, but some are too hard to forget
Memory is a tenuous thing
But some memories hurt with the pain that they bring.
